Focus Areas

NorthLight Foundation has four focus areas that guide its engagement, with a focus on investing in ambitious projects that can deliver new, high-impact solutions.

Reimagining Conservation

Investing in and engaging with innovative organizations and conservation strategies, focusing primarily on large landscape-scale conservation. NorthLight Foundation prioritizes projects that build climate and community resilience, and has a strong portfolio dedicated to defense of the Arctic.

Catalyzing Environmental Leadership

Developing and funding initiatives fostering new leadership and supporting existing leaders in support of the environment. NorthLight Foundation prioritizes partnerships in higher education, especially for those students who might not otherwise pursue this work, and seeks opportunities to support professionals engaged in important work in the field.

Building Resilient Rural Communities

Supporting innovative approaches to resilience in targeted rural communities. NorthLight Foundation’s resilience investments are prioritized in Maine, where the Foundation is funding efforts to build capacity of partners, support innovative solutions, and educate and inform the public and decision makers through robust resilience storytelling and communications.

Centering Community

NorthLight Foundation is investing in organizations whose mission enriches the communities they serve.
